The world of work has changed quickly. AI and automation are no longer distant ideas reserved for large technology companies — small businesses, independent professionals, educators, and community organizations are already being asked to make decisions about automated systems, data, security, privacy, and AI, often without the budgets, technical teams, or trustworthy guidance available to larger organizations.

That is why we built SmartAutomate.

Our mission is to make responsible technology practical: real workflows, usable tools, clear teaching, and automation that survives contact with expired permissions, changing APIs, security requirements, and ordinary business life. We believe smaller organizations should be able to use powerful technology without handing their operations to opaque systems or becoming unpaid technicians for the tools they purchased.

What We’ve Built So Far

Over the past year, SmartAutomate has:

• Built and launched SmartSocial Autopilot, connecting WordPress publishing with social-media distribution and evergreen-content circulation.
• Developed monitoring, retry logic, posting records, and connection alerts to make automation more reliable and accountable.
• Tested integrations with LinkedIn, Facebook Pages, Mastodon, and Bluesky, while continuing work on additional networks.
• Published practical guidance about API access, authentication failures, platform changes, model selection, and reliable automation.
• Connected SmartAutomate’s implementation work with FairByDesign’s governance, privacy, security, and accountability principles.
• Continued developing practical decision tools and educational resources that help organizations distinguish workflow improvement, conventional automation, AI assistance, and governed agent execution.

None of that appeared because a dashboard summoned itself into existence. It took development environments, hosting, testing accounts, API access, technical troubleshooting, documentation, security work, and a truly unreasonable number of conversations with error messages.

Our Goal: $30,000

We are raising $30,000 to fund the next year of public and accessible SmartAutomate work. The campaign will support:

• Free automation decision tools and public educational resources
• Practical templates, implementation guides, and technical documentation
• Development and testing environments
• Hosting for public tools and demonstrations
• Security, privacy, and reliability testing
• Accessible tutorials for small businesses and independent professionals
• Continued development of responsible automation products
• Scholarship or reduced-cost access to selected educational programs

A contribution does more than fund software. It helps create an alternative to the idea that every useful technology must be confusing, extractive, inaccessible, or available only to organizations with enterprise budgets.
